Studio Babelsberg production THE GHOST WRITER honoured with four César awards

The Studio Babelsberg-produced film The Ghost Writer won four César awards at this year’s gala in Paris last weekend. The political thriller directed by Oscar-winner Roman Polanski had been nominated in eight categories. In the end, the film was honoured with four prizes: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay (Roman Polanski, Robert Harris), Best Editing (Hervé de Luze), and Best Music (Alexandre Desplat).

The Ghost Writer has already won six prizes at the 23rd European Film Awards. Roman Polanski was awarded a Silver Bear for Best Director at the 60th Berlin Film Festival.

The Ghost Writer, which is set in England and the USA, was shot entirely in Germany, on locations like Sylt, Usedom, Berlin as well as in the Babelsberg studios. Studio Babelsberg was the sole executive production company. The film is a German-French-British co-production between the partners RP Productions (F), Studio Babelsberg (D) and Runteam (UK). Roman Polanski, Robert Benmussa and Alain Sarde produced the film. Dr. Carl Woebcken, Christoph Fisser and Henning Molfenter, all from Studio Babelsberg, and Timothy Burrill from Runteam serve as the co-producers. The German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), the German Federal Film Board (FFA), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and Wirtschaftliche Filmförderung Mecklen-burg-Vorpommern supported the film.

The political thriller starring Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall and Olivia Williams pre-miered in Berlin in 2010.
