With its founding in 1912, Studio Babelsberg has become the oldest large-scale film studio in the world and the cradle of German film. With its comprehensive services for German and international film projects, Studio Babelsberg belongs to the leading locations for the production of motion pictures, TV, streaming and advertising productions in Europe.

Studio Babelsberg views itself as a professional production partner and service provider for German and international filmmakers. With a singular range of services in Germany, the studio covers all phases and areas of film production in one facility and is increasingly involved as co-producer in many projects and also in film financing.

21 state-of-the-art studios and sound stages, various backlots and exterior sets on over 42 acres and attractive, closely situated shooting locations near the gates to Berlin with all of its opportunities and connections – we offer ideal conditions! The internationally experienced crews of Studio Babelsberg Motion Pictures, the props managers of Europe’s largest prop department and the art department’s first-class back drop builders and production designers belong to the best of their kind in the world.

Babelsberg is film history: Metropolis, The Blue Angel, Die Drei von der Tankstelle, Münchhausen, Die Feuerzangenbowle, Die Geschichte vom kleinen Muck, The Pianist, V for Vendetta, The Bourne Supremacy, The Reader or Inglourious Basterds are just a few examples.

A multitude of renown filmmakers have worked in the long-established studios: Guido Seeber, Urban Gad, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, Ernst Lubitsch, Fritz Lang, Josef von Sternberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Wolfgang Staudte, Kurt Maetzig, Volker Schlöndorff, Quentin Tarantino, Tom Tykwer, Roland Emmerich, Terrence Malick, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, Wes Anderson, Steven Spielberg and many more.

Great cinema is produced also today with movies such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, Bridge of Spies, The Hunger Games or The Matrix Resurrections.

Stars like Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, Natalie Portman, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, Tom Hanks, Cate Blanchett, George Clooney, Keanu Reeves or Kristen Stewart come and go.

In addition, Studio Babelsberg has established itself as professional service provider for the production of premium series – successful titles as Babylon Berlin, Homeland or Dark were made in the Babelsberg's sound stages and backlots.

The film studio has marked the international development of the cinema and is until today groundbreaking in film-technical innovations – starting with the invention of the “unchained camera”, the first feature-length sound film to the first volumetric studio on the European mainland, the Volucap, and one of the world’s most innovative LED stages for virtual production, DARK BAY.
