The Studio Babelsberg production Inglourious Basterds was nominated for the Academy Awards in eight categories: Best Motion Picture, Best Directing (Quentin Tarantino), Best Original Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Christoph Waltz), Best Cinematography (Robert Richardson), Best Editing (Sally Menke), Best Sound Mixing (Michael Minkler, Tony Lamberti, Mark Ulano) and Best Sound Editing (Wylie Stateman).
With eight nominations, the movie sets a record for a German production. Once again, a movie “made in Babelsberg” has a chance to win the most coveted film award. It’s the fifth time since 2003 and the third year in a row that we are taking part in the Oscars run.

The 82nd Academy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 7, 2010.
Inglourious Basterds was shot in 2008 at Babelsberg’s famous stages as well as on location in Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony and Paris. Christoph Waltz has already been awarded “Best Actor” at the Festival de Cannes and won a Golden Globe in January. Studio Babelsberg was assigned as executive production company. The film was subsidized by German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM).
Inglourious Basterds is distributed in Germany by Universal Pictures Germany and scored more than 2 million tickets at German box office. The film is available on DVD and Blu-ray since the middle of January.
