THE THREE MUSKETEERS starts shooting in 3D at Studio Babelsberg

Filming of the 3D action/adventure movie The Three Musketeers began at Studio Babelsberg this week. After being on location in Bavaria, the Constantin Film crew is now filming at several Babelsberg stages including the historical Marlene-Dietrich-stage. The Three Musketeers is a stereoscopic 3D movie which requires elaborate set production. These big  sets prove once again the high quality craftsmanship of Babelsberg’s construction crews.

The Three Musketeers is being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson who also produces the film alongside his partner at Impact Pictures (a subsidiary of Constantin Film), Jeremy Bolt, and Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film. Executive Producer is Martin Moszkowicz, Member of the Board of Constantin Film for Film and Television. The picture is co-produced by NEF Productions, New Legacy and Studio Babelsberg. The regional fund Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg supported the movie.

The picture stars Logan Lerman as D’Artagnan; Matthew MacFadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans as the famous Three Musketeer trio of Athos, Porthos and Aramis; Oscar® winner Christoph Waltz as Cardinal Richelieu; Orlando Bloom as Duke of Buckingham; Milla Jovovich as M'lady de Winter and Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort.

The Three Musketeers is the sixth international film production at Babelsberg this year. At the end of September, shooting on Chicken with Plums [a partner production between Studio Babelsberg and Celluloid Dreams (Paris)] was completed. In the first half of the year, the movies Unknown White Male starring Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger, Hanna starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana, and the horror movie The Apparition (studio shooting part), were realized. Unknown White Male and The Apparition are Dark Castle Entertainment/Joel Silver productions. Studio Babelsberg participates in the profits of Dark Castle. From March to August Roland Emmerich worked on his Shakespeare drama, Anonymous, shot entirely at the Babelsberg Studios. The entire post production under the leadership of visual effects expert and Oscar® winner Volker Engel, is taking place at Studio Babelsberg and will last until the end of October. In addition to these international movies, the Studio Babelsberg departments were also engaged in numerous German productions: for example, Goethe! (Senator Film/ deutschfilm), Hidden (Schmidtz Katze Filmkollektiv), Yoko (Blue Eyes Fiction) and Wunderkinder (CCC Filmkunst, Artur Brauner).
