Studio Babelsberg was added to the exclusive list of "Treasures of European Film Culture" by the European Film Academy. The plaque of honor was unveiled today in a festive ceremony on the studio lot in Potsdam-Babelsberg.
In the presence of Matthijs Wouter Knol, CEO and Director of the European Film Academy, and Dieter Jetschmanegg, Head of the Central Administration of the City of Potsdam, the invited guests paid tribute to the historic Studio Babelsberg, which celebrates its 110th birthday this year.
The management board of Studio Babelsberg AG is delighted about the award. Christoph Fisser, COO, says:
“We would like to sincerely thank the European Film Academy for honoring this special place. For 110 years, Babelsberg has been an indispensable dot on the map of the European film landscape. Countless filmmakers, legendary directors, and film stars have created unforgettable 'treasures' of European cinema here. The award of Studio Babelsberg as 'Treasure of European Film Culture' should also be an incentive for us and all economic, cultural and political actors to maintain and sustainably develop this film location in the future.”

Studio Babelsberg is the first place in Germany and the only film studio to be included in the list of "Treasures of European Film Culture". With “Treasures of European Film Culture”, the European Film Academy highlights places of a symbolic nature for European cinema, places of historical value that need to be maintained and protected not just now but also for generations to come. Currently, the list includes 35 places of symbolic importance for European filmmaking:
