Studio Babelsberg co-production A HIDDEN LIFE in Cannes Competition

A HIDDEN LIFE directed by Terrence Malick will celebrate its world premiere in competition of the 72th Cannes Film Festival. The official selection of the festival was announced today.

Charlie Woebcken, CEO of Studio Babelsberg and Executive Producer of the film: "We couldn’t imagine a better place for the world premiere of A HIDDEN LIFE! We are very happy that this remarkable story will be presented at one of the most prestigious film festivals worldwide. It's great news for all the outstanding German and Austrian actors, especially August Diehl, who will get the international attention they deserve.”

A HIDDEN LIFE is a co-production of Studio Babelsberg. Elisabeth Bentley, Grant Hill, Dario Bergesio, Marcus Loges, and Josh Jeter are producing. Charlie Woebcken, Christoph Fisser, and Henning Molfenter from Studio Babelsberg are executive producers, along with Adam Morgan. A HIDDEN LIFE was filmed on location in Germany, Austria, and Italy. The film was funded by DFFF, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, FFA and the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung. Pandora Film Verleihwill relase the film in German speaking territories.

Synopsis: Based on real events, A HIDDEN LIFE is the story of an unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife Fanni and children that keeps his spirit alive.
