Studio Babelsberg subsidiary awarded grant of up to 5.8 million for “The International”

09/07/2007

In the session of September 5th, 2007, the Advisory Board of the Fund for the Advancement of Ger-man Films (DFFF: Deutscher Filmfoerderfonds) granted approval for up to approximately 1.8 million euros DFFF funds for The International in addition to the DFFF funds of 4 million euros already pledged at the beginning of August of this year. With this last instalment, the film production shall receive the requested total subsidy amount of 5.8 million euros.

“We are extremely pleased about the grant of the requested total sum. This will send out a positive signal world-wide. The production of major international projects in Germany requires the highest possible long-term planning and security for the production companies. Germany’s total film production expertise will be strengthened through such lasting positive economic effects.”

CEO Studio Babelsberg PLC

The German-English action thriller is a co-production of Siebte Babelsberg Film GmbH and Rose Line Productions Limited. Clive Owen and Naomi Watts are starring in the film.
The film is produced by Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Lloyd Phillips, executive produced by John Woo, Terence Chang, Alan Glazer and Jeff Lurie, and co produced by Christoph Fisser, Henning Molfenter and Carl Woebcken .

The German Federal Film Board (FFA), the official institution responsible for the advancement of the German film industry, stated that: “This action-filled project, The International, will – especially as regards the use of effects workshops – take place for the most part within Germany.
All the final processing was able to be carried out on the home level, so that now more than two-thirds of production costs are being spent in Germany. The commitment of well-known German actors like Armin Mueller-Stahl and Axel Milberg as well as numerous German film personnel in decisive key positions and the unusually high costs being spent on the German location will guarantee contributions to the domestic economy, just what the DFFF has in mind.”
