Studio Babelsberg AG Publishes 2025 Financial Results

• Operating Results Show Significant Improvement
• Revenue rises to 68.1 million euros; EBITDA returns to positive territory

Potsdam-Babelsberg – Studio Babelsberg AG published its financial results for 2025 today. The Studio Babelsberg Group continued to improve its operating performance: The Group’s total revenue increased by 11.6 million euros to 68.1 million euros in fiscal year 2025 (previous year: 56.5 million euros), and EBITDA returned to positive territory at 33 thousand euros (previous year: -1,224 thousand euros). Consolidated net income after taxes amounted to -321 thousand euros (previous year: -87 thousand euros).

After a slow start to the year, capacity utilization in the core business areas of studio rentals, production services, and set construction showed positive growth, particularly in the second half of fiscal year 2025. The production of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping made a significant contribution to this. Following Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2 as well as The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, this film is the fourth production in the series for which Studio Babelsberg, as a co-production partner and production service provider, carried out filming in Babelsberg and at other locations in Germany.

The acquisition strategy – which aims to attract not only international productions but also an increasing number of German and European projects to Babelsberg – was continued in fiscal year 2025. Projects included, among others, the film Athos 2643 by director David Wnendt, the film Heimsuchung (Visitation) by Volker Schlöndorff, and the fifth and final season of the series Babylon Berlin. By the end of the year, several international high-end series had also been acquired for production starting in 2026, including Berlin Noir for Apple TV.

According to the company, the adjustment of film funding to 30 % and the increase in annual federal funding to 250 million euros – both announced during the reporting year – have helped strengthen Germany’s competitiveness as a film production hub. However, Studio Babelsberg views the recently announced cuts to funding with skepticism, given the industry’s need for planning certainty.

“Film funding is not a subsidy – it is an investment in the film industry. The federal government’s announcement that it would double film funding sent an important signal. This was immediately recognized internationally and has restored producers’ confidence in Germany as a film production location. Cuts at this point would therefore send a fatal message. Confidence cannot be rebuilt from scratch every year. What matters now is to secure this momentum and consistently implement the announced measures. The industry needs planning certainty and reliable framework conditions so that long-term investment decisions are made in Germany’s favor.

At the same time, the investment commitment should be designed to be attractive, flexible, and conducive to investment, so that international streaming platforms invest more in Germany. Only in this way can Germany increase its international competitive strenght and sustainably win back more productions.”

Despite the current film funding policy, Studio Babelsberg successfully produced several high-end international series in the first half of 2026. Given the high capacity utilization in the first half of 2026 and a strong order book, the Executive Board is optimistic about the rest of the year.
