Studio Babelsberg AG Annual General Meeting approves all agenda items
The Annual General Meeting of Studio Babelsberg AG today approved all agenda items by a large majority. This included the discharge of the Management Board and Supervisory Board for the 2024 financial year, the election of Deloitte GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft, Berlin, as auditor, and the Supervisory Board elections. In the election for the Supervisory Board, shareholders elected Mr. Eoin Egan, Co-CEO of Cinespace Studios, to the company’s Supervisory Board alongside current members Maria Terzini and Keith Gordon Gee. Eoin Egan replaces Jacob Muller, who resigned from his position with effect from the end of the Annual General Meeting. Following Eoin Egan’s move to the Supervisory Board, the Management Board of Studio Babelsberg AG consists of Jörg Bachmaier, who manages the day-to-day business and strategy of the company in close cooperation with Cinespace Studios and the management team of Studio Babelsberg.
Prior to the vote, the Management Board reported on the 2024 financial year, the key events, and the outlook for 2025/2026.
Jörg Bachmaier, CEO of Studio Babelsberg AG, commented:
“We are already preparing several major productions for 2026 and are in promising negotiations for further film and series projects. It is now crucial that the planned increase in film funding is implemented quickly, before the end of this year, in order to ensure planning security, which is particularly important for international productions. Then we can expect significantly more stable capacity utilization and a noticeable improvement in results in the coming year.”
The 2024 financial year was challenging for Studio Babelsberg AG. The strikes by the US unions WGA and SAG-AFTRA in 2023 led to project postponements, budget cuts, and production stoppages worldwide in the following year. In Germany, the introduction of the tax incentive model planned as part of the film funding reform also failed due to the collapse of the traffic light coalition. Despite the tense economic environment, Studio Babelsberg was able to significantly improve capacity utilization in its core activities of studio rental, production services, and set construction. Studio Babelsberg AG and its subsidiaries realized two major international productions in 2024: Wes Anderson’s ensemble comedy The Phoenician Scheme and Robert Schwentke’s action thriller Control. Other projects also contributed to the positive business performance: the series Call My Agent Berlin (Disney+), scenes for the international series Nine Perfect Strangers (Prime Video), the TV show Bosetti Late Night (3sat), music and advertising productions, and orders for trade fairs, exhibitions, and museums in set construction.
Compared to the previous year, the Group recorded an improved order situation and a significant increase in revenue: The total revenue of the Studio Babelsberg Group in the 2024 financial year rose from EUR 21.1 million to EUR 56.5 million. Consolidated net income was EUR -87 thousand (previous year: EUR -3,116 thousand) and EBITDA was EUR -1,224 thousand (previous year: EUR -8,863 thousand). After loss transfer, the consolidated financial statements for 2024 show a net loss of EUR -87 thousand (previous year: EUR -3,116 thousand) and EBITDA of EUR -1,224 thousand (previous year: EUR -8,863 thousand). The result of Studio Babelsberg AG (EUR -3,133 thousand; previous year: EUR -6,517 thousand) is offset by the shareholder Kino BidCo GmbH in accordance with the domination and profit transfer agreement. Under the domination and profit transfer agreement between Kino BidCo GmbH and Studio Babelsberg AG, outside shareholders of Studio Babelsberg AG receive a fixed annual compensation amount. This was paid out on September 1, 2025.
