OSCAR® for Kate Winslet in Studio Babelsberg production “The Reader”

Kate Winslet was awarded with an OSCAR® as the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 81st Academy Awards® ceremony in Los Angeles. Her outstanding performance in the Studio Babelsberg production The Reader was once again internationally appreciated.
We would like to point out that The Reader was shot almost completely in Germany and also that many German actors were set in the movie.

Dr. Carl Woebcken, CEO Studio Babelsberg AG and together with his partner Christoph Fisser co-producer of The Reader, live from Los Angeles: “Together with the whole crew we are incredibly happy and congratulate Kate Winslet with all our hearts! We would like to point out that The Reader was shot almost completely in Germany and also that many German actors were set in the movie, above all David Cross, who was just awarded the European SHOOTING STAR 2009”. The SHOOTING STARS Awards were presented for the first time by Studio Babelsberg.

The Reader was produced by the studio subsidiary Neunte Babelsberg Film GmbH and shot on location in Berlin, Babelsberg, Görlitz, Cologne, and New York. The motion picture was directed by Steven Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours). Academy Award winners Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack (Mirage Enterprises), both men recently deceased, served as producers together with Donna Gigliotti and Redmond Morris. Bob and Harvey Weinstein oversaw the production as executive producers.
