Studio Babelsberg: OSCAR® for Christoph Waltz

Christoph Waltz was awarded the OSCAR® for Best Supporting Actor at the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. His outstanding performance was now honored with the world’s most significant film prize.

Christoph Fisser, COO Studio Babelsberg and co-producer of Inglourious Basterds: “We are tremendously happy and congratulate Christoph Waltz with all our hearts! After countless international honors, Christoph Waltz now took the world’s most important film award. In Hollywood, all doors are now open to him.”

Eight nominations were a record for a German production. Together with further five nominations for the films supported by Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, Germany’s Capital Region proves to have an excellent creative environment and a great international know-how.

Charlie Woebcken, CEO Studio Babelsberg and co-producer of Inglourious Basterds adds: “With this award Studio Babelsberg is represented at the Oscars for the fifth time since 2003 and the third year in a row. Eight nominations were a record for a German production. Together with further five nominations for the films supported by Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, Germany’s Capital Region proves to have an excellent creative environment and a great international know-how.”

Studio Babelsberg served as executive production company and provided the entire production service for Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. The film was mainly shot at Babelsberg’s famous stages as well as on location in Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony and Paris. Inglourious Basterds was subsidized by German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM).

In Germany, Inglourious Basterds is distributed by Universal Pictures. More than 2 million tickets were sold at German cinemas. The film is available on DVD and Blu-ray since the middle of January.
